Scythe vs Strimmer at Somerset Green Scythe Fair 2023
The annual ritual of publicly demonstrating that a scythe is better than a petrol brush cutter in every regard. It is a short 5 meter sprint, more a demonstration than competition. Simon with the brush cutter is a proficient operator and bought a special new blade just for the event.

International Peening Day promo 23
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Год назад
A silly advert style promo for IPD 23. IPD is an 'everywhere-event’: the idea is to remind people to prepare their scythes in advance of the mowing season. You can participate by peening at home alone, or better still gather in local groups to peen together and get help and encouragement, as well as talk about scythes!
Maig - the sub-aqua scythe - Part 2
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.Год назад
Maigs are a traditional long reach scythe - used in the Norfolk broads for clearing emergent vegetation in drainage ditches from the bankside. They are also useful for clearing excess growth from the margins of ponds and other water features. Working with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust has given me the opportunity to try these tools for myself. I have since made two Maigs for use on wetland reserve...

Giant Hogweed control with a Scythe
Просмотров 64 тыс.3 года назад
Long ago in the Russian hills a Victorian explorer found the regal Hogweed by a marsh, he captured it and brought it home to London and made a present of the Hogweed to the Royal Gardens at Kew. Fashionable country gentlemen had some cultivated wild gardens in which they innocently planted the Giant Hogweed throughout the land. Soon they escaped, spreading their seed, preparing for an onslaught...

Estonian wood meadow Nedrema

Estonian wood meadows are amongst the most flower rich diverse habitats in Europe. They once covered 20% of the land of Estonia but are now reduced to a small number of reserves. This one at Nedrema is the largest wooded meadow in Northern Europe with 100ha that is still mown for hay. It has varied grasslands supporting up to 54 plant species per square meter. Bog swimming and fruits of the forest in Estonia

Seven days immersive experience with the nature, spirit and welcoming people of Estonia - remembered through my cameras, and when I mow back home with my scythe. The landscape was in some ways similar to my home county of Norfolk: of wetland with meandering rivers, and forests ...and quite flat! - but, so much more expansive and wilder, rich in flowers and berries: bilberries, crowberries and c...

This and dying of smallpox 😫😫😫😫😫😫
Mowing the lawn is a sensual activity. But how must the idiots who sit on a stolen lawnmower feel?
This is the way how me and my grandpa cut grass when he kept bunnies, because the lawn mower cuts the grass too small so they wouldn't eat it
So much better than those annoying gas mowers
Such beautiful plants..what a pity they are harmful.
Well done. I commend you for performing such hard work.

this is a great idea but an even better idea would be to actually do something with this land, like just letting things grow for wildlife. it still requires work but way less than what grass cutting takes. so many people put hours every weekend into maintaining a grass lawn when they dont even use it for anything. fair enough if youve got kids and you want space for them to play but apart from that it doesnt really make sense. its just an outdated idea from hundreds of years ago where people mostly started doing it just to show off how wealthy they were
all that space is wasted on grass. Get some native wildflowers growing in there in sections, some veg patches, shrubs and trees and there will be less lawn to mow.
lookin' good
Dude must have a mean right hook.
That's one way to do it...
Wow, I'm glad this video got this many views over time, I'd bet it would buy you a new version of what was stolen :) Sad that happened to you!
Can you recommend a good blade ?
Sad to read that there are people who seem not to know what a scythe is. The same for spinning. Old technics getting lost in a few generations. We should write it down and paint pictures for the generations, if they have to live without electricity maybe one day.
The technique is perfect and impressing
Dont you have sheeps?
you really need to catch up to the times n get yourself a battery scythe :)
The scythe is the tool of the present and the past and beats a strimmer/bush whacker every time see my scythe vs strimmer vids
I’m too regimented, I would need both lefty and righty versions to do equal sets 😂
dude just get a couple goats
Ok, but why? The grass isn't even tall yet, Imo it was a perfect length before being cut, why would you ruin it?
Now it's too short. The grass needs a certain length, otherwise it'll die.
Buy a lawnmower stupid
+1000 aura when you mow with a scythe
Sorry to hear about your lawnmower being stolen 🥺
כל הכבוד💪
地面をこすりながら刈るみたいですね。上手いですね。子供の漫画でおじいさんが刈ったりしてますよね。
The algorithm strikes again
Buy another mower
Or better yet, don't have a lawn. Why grow grass for no reason?
25+ Great Scythe with stormcaller
how bout you get some sheep for 1/50th the cost of a ride on mower
Anyone who does this in the modern world is an imbecile and a waste of space.
is cutting grass with a scythe hard on the back, looks like a lot of twist all the time
Crazy to think that this guy has been playing Runescape since October 2003. Finally putting that scythe to good use instead of collecting dust in the bank.
His cardio is on a different level
Happy to see Alan Grant keeping busy after Jurassic Park.
22 million views huh? I mean I clicked on it myself, but still...
I know Richard is as confused as we all are as to why 22 million people have clicked on this😂 mainly to drop a line about the grim reaper of lawns & still watched the whole thing
I refuse to ever use a noisy lawn mower. I either won’t have a lawn at all or I’m doing this. This is great (and great exercise!). It actually looks quite meditative and satisfying.
I will tell you all about it if the comment gets 100 likes
Why are they always "mowing" the EASIEST GRASS POSSIBLE ON EARTH?! Its so cringe
Why wouldnt you just buy another lawn mower
I just moved into a house and lawn care became something I had to start doing. At no point did I ever consider a scythe. A lawnmower is honestly cheaper than any scythe
Why would somebody use this over a lawn mover, genuine question not being a hater
I’ll bet this guy has a strong core.
So death is just a glorified gardener?
???「草を刈り取る形だ」
who the hell steals a riding mower?
Just buy a cow
